Printers, Wifi and Continuous Ink systems

I'm looking to get a new printer.  I have a Lexmark P4350 and it has served me well for the past 6 or so years.

But I now have windows 7 running on 3 out of the 4 computers running in my home.  And I have tried and tried but can not get the windows 7 computers to print over our home net work to this print.  Because the host computer the printer is connected to is running windows xp.

And, I really hate to spend the cost on new ink carts.  So I have just been getting my cartridges refilled at Walgreen's.  But I'm still stingy with the ink and print on low quality.

I'm looking to upgrade to a new printer by the end of the year so thought I better start looking now.  I need one with WiFi I'm guessing.  So I can print to it from any of the computers in the house with out being hooked up to it.  So that is a must.

The most important thing is, I'm wanting to add the continuous Inks systems so that in the long run. It will save money and I can print quality things.

I'm looking at Epson,  as I hear they work great.  And the reviews are outstanding.  I don't need a big honking printer or wide format printer.  As I don't do digital scrapping,  And wont print any pictures bigger then 5x7. If ever. lol

Any one have any suggestions as far as these printers or may be suggest a better one.  I'm looking to stay under 200 if possible.

Thanks
Sharon

"Preston Layout"

Wow, I went to bed at 4am this morning and got up at 9am.  And Started scrapping.

I found this beautiful sketch "MoJo Monday" (I know, its Tuesday, but its never to late to work from a wonderful Sketch). I found this on Flying Unicorns Blog.

I love all the details in this sketch.  And here is my take on this sketch with a layout I made today.  This is my grandson Preston,  he is 6 days old in this picture on Feb 13, 2011

I love the colors of this paper,  It matches his blanket with the greens and browns and just a little hint of blue.

Here is a close up of the lace doily I made for the corner.  The center is a bead center piece from Recollections at Michael's. The border is a border punch by Fiskars,  Trisket A Tasket.

These are some flowers from one of my MCS kits.  The one in the center is BoBunny Petals,  And I inked the edges.  The branch leaves is a sizzix die.  And brown sheer ribbon.
This adorable bead butterfly is by Recollections from Michaels.  I love how this turned out.  Its so pretty with all the flowers and butterfly on there.

Things used

MME "Tres Belle" Pattern papers
MME  "Lush" Ribbon, Chipboard flock letters, Rhinestone brads
Fiskars border punch "Trisket A Tasket"
Recollections Butterfly, Bead Center
BoBunny Petals Flower
Sizzix Branch Die
Other things: Lace, Sewing machine, Score tape, zots, blue, Ink

I hope you enjoyed my newest layout.

Happy Beautiful Tuesday!

I'm totally loving our beautiful Florida weather right now.

Last night, we had a massive storm pass over us, We didn't even get any rain,  but some how lost our power for 3 hours.  I cant wait for our daily rain showers about 5:30 every night.   I love to sit on the screen porch and watch it rain.  So soothing.

So what do you all have planed for your craft adventures this week.  I'm going to be working on some new layouts with some new vintage papers I got.  You know I'm just loving this vintage and shabby chic look.  I also have 4 wooden bird houses that are just calling to be dressed up.  So that sounds like a plan as well.

If your wondering what Smokey is up to these days.  Well.  She is just loving the new screen porch, she wants out there first thing in the morning and she would rather stay out there all day.   Which is okay, because I can now go in my craft room and play with out fighting her for my ribbons and flowers.    Yesterday.  I had left the door open.  And she came running out.  All excited with her find.  She had this roll of scrap vintage lace I got at the good will.  Boy, I had to get that from her quick.  She wants to happy about it.  So I gave her her own ribbon with little pink and purple bones on it.  And she loved it.

Well, that for now.  I'm off to the craft room.

Copy and Paste to MTC in Windows 7

Woo Hoo!

I'm doing the happy dance here.  I have always had a problem with the copy and paste of my KNK file or any thing else for that matter in to MTC  (Make the Cut) software.

I have tried every thing from Right click copy and paste, and Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V and the File Option Copy and paste.  And nothing has worked.

I have read on the net that Windows 7 running 64 bit has clipboard issues with the copy and paste.

So I posted on the MTC yahoo group and there were a couple of suggestions but nothing worked.

But then, Brenda of  Simplybrenhavingfun blog
Told me to try the Snipping tool in Windows 7 and use the pixel trace > Paste function.   And OMGosh!  it worked.

So this is what you do.

Open the item you want to copy and click on the snipping tool.  (I dont know where its located but I did a search, and when it found it. I selected add to the start button so its in my list now)

When your snipping tool window pops up. Click on the drop down arrow next to "New"  and select an option.  I use the "Rectangular Snip" and use your mouse to make a rectangle around your image to copy.

With that window still open, minus it down and open MTC and click on the Pixel trace (Curved line with the 4 blue squares) and select paste and you should now see your image.   You will need to play with the threshold and other settings to get your image complete.  But it works.

Hope this helps others that have issues with copy and paste in MTC and Windows 7.

Thanks Brenda for your help.

Week Went by Fast!

Wow, has it really been a week since I posted.  Buy the looks of it, it has.

I was so busy this week, with working in the yard, weeding the veggie garden, a visit with my grandson, and working on some files for next months grab bag.  And then working on the screen room.  Its almost done.

Wow, I totally forgot to post to my blog.  I didn't do any thing crafty this week but design some files for next month.  But this week,  I have some crafty plans in the works.  So I will be posting those.  When I get them done.

I also have decided to give up KNK and learn to design in AI CS2.  So I have the 400 page book.  And there are a ton of videos on the net.  No idea how long it will take to learn, I'm sure it will be a while.  So I will be working in both KNK and AI for a while.  But don't worry.  My files will still be available in the same formats they are now.

Hope you all have a wonderful Easter how ever you choose to spend it.  We will be grilling burgers and finishing the gutters on the new screen room and we will be done with that. Woo Hoo!  I will post a picture when its done. And see if I have a before picture some where.

See y'all in a few days.

How to unmount "Wood Mounted Stamps"

I have had a lot of questions about my stamp storage with I really think is the best system you can have.  You honestly know every single stamp you have and can find it in just a few seconds.  When your in the market for new stamps.  Just take the book with you, and check your sections before you purchase.  This will stop you from buying the same ones over. LOL!.

Okay, on to how to Unmount Wood Mounted stamps. Some are really easy and some are a real pain in the you know what. I haven't done my Stampin up yet because I never use them so not sure I will keep them.

So you have to get the rubber stamp off the mounted block.  Most are on a gray type sticky foam.  And will pull off really easy and leave the back of the rubber stamp clean.  Like these  old Stamping up stamps.
You will then use Aleene's Tack it over.  You can get it at Joanns with a coupon.  And use a good small brush.  I like to use the flat edge ones, they work great. And you can put some in a little bowl and dip the paint brush in the glue and and paint the back.  It will be white when you put it on.  But in about a hour it will turn clear and glossy.  But, Wait 24 hours for it to dry so that it is re-positional.   And just stick it to the side of the DVD case.

Now, If you have some rubber stamps that will not come of clean.  I had a bunch of Just for Fun Red Rubber stamps that were a real pain.  When you peel them off they had a thick film on the back that was hard to get off.  So I tried several things like heating the stamp in the micro wave , using a heat gun, you name it, I tried it.  And the best thing I found that removed the left over on the back is some stuff called Scrappers Solution made by Undu.

You put some on the back and use the scrapper that comes with it. And scrap off the adhesive. And its left clean,  then you just paint on the Aleene's glue. And left dry for 24 hours before you stick on the case.

If you would like my excel sheet that has been sized for these cases.  You can download it here.

Quiet Corner Bench Card

Remember my new stamps from yesterday's Tutorial.

I made a new card today with one of the sets of stamps. "They Quiet Corner Bench".

I stamped with versamark then heat embossed with black detail EP and Gold detail EP.  Then Water colored the images with Tombow markers and a water pen.  I hand punched the holes and hand sewed the boarder.

This is the adorable hat that is in the set. I water colored it as well.  And then used Flower soft on the flowers on the hat, and flowers on the grass and basket. All images are layered on pop dots.

Here is the basket.  It was also heat embossed and colored with Tombow markers.   And used Flower soft on these flowers as well.

Here is the super cute little cat stamp in the set.  I water colored him gray with darker stripes to look like my Smokey. LOL!  Isn't he cute.

This card now in store. "Corner Bench Card"

New Stamps from Cutters Creek and Tutorial

Hello all,

I'm so excited.  I got 3 new sets of stamps that I ordered from Cutters CreekLet me tell you, Kim is the best.  She gets your orders right out to you unless you have a preorder item holding up your order.  She has great prices and sales.  I have purchased a lot from Cutters Creek in the past 2 weeks.

The stamps I bought from Cutters Creek are on sale 65% off.  So they are only $4.55 each.  So I bought all 3 sets.  They are just beautiful.  I have been looking for a good garden set of stamps.  And these are perfect.

"The Quiet Corner Bench"  has a really nice Bench, Cat, Hat, Basket, Book, Gloves and several Flowers and Grass.

"The Gate"  is adorable. It has a Gate, 2 sections of Fence, 3 signs, 3 birds, Latch and Bracket for fence and several Grass and Flowers.

"Wheelbarrow"  Is just beautiful.  It has a Wheelbarrow with a stone rode path underneath and has 3 different seasons of Flowers.

And the great thing about these stamps are they are mixable.  You can mix all these sets with the others.  I cant wait to create a card or some thing with these.

But for now.  I'm going to show you a tutorial on how I store and add them to my collection of stamps.

What you need:  Your stamps, if Unmounted and not sticky.  You will need some thing like Double sided tape or Aleene's tack it over (I use this), Tim Holtz Scissors (which I love). Either a Label maker or Excel sheet, and a thick DVD case, And don't for get a binder to log your stamps.

First I check my binder,  and you notice, I have a bunch of tabs in here with all my categories.

I want to put these new Garden stamps in the Garden section and see that I have some Wheelbarrow's already. LOL!  But this shows me that they are wood mounted and in Drawer 7 along with the other stamps on this page. (Note, One page per case).  Well, these new stamps are not wood mounted.  And I want to put them in a DVD case.  So I have to go to my excel sheet and see what letter code is available.  Because I don't already have a Letter assigned to a DVD for Garden.

So I start a new sheet for the DVD case.  And I trimmed my rubber stamps and I have enough room for both of these sets in one DVD case. And these stamps are big.  So they fit nice in the Thick DVD cases.  I check for placement first to make sure they all fit.  And they do.  So I take the printed paper that came in the stamps and I cut it out and paste or tape it on to the sheet.  If you don't have a preprinted sheet.  You can just stamp the images on your paper.   I then add the name of the company.  The name of the stamp set and the number of the stamps.  So when I use them, I have all the information handy to post for you all.
I put the Gate set in its own case so now.  If I happen to get more Gate stamps. I can add them to this DVD and just add the images to the page. Super easy.
After I checked my excel sheet, and see that I have Alpha number set I I 1 available.  So I type this in to my excel sheet, And give it the theme of Garden,  and then I put a little description of what is in the set.  I give the 2nd DVD the Alpha Number I I 2.  And Garden, and list it as Gate. Now, that I have this Alpha number started for Garden DVD cases.  It will be easy to add, The next cases for Garden will be marked II3, II4, II5 and so on.

After I get that done and save my excel sheet.  I select the 2 new rows and print > Selection and only print the 2 new entries.  I then cut them down to the strips. Which have been already sized to fit my cases in my excel sheet.  I then take my Xyron 150 sticker maker, and slide the 2 entries in face down.  Why do I put them in face down.  Well, I do this so that the sticky is on the front so I can then put them on the "Inside" of the DVD case so the label never gets dirty or comes off.
Here are my 2 new cases added to my Catalog system and my storage system.  You can see, the Alpha number, then DVD, Garden, And description.  And the label is on the inside of the case spine.
Then in the binder.  I insert the page in the garden section.  And I add the DVD Alpha Number to the top corner.

So now, When I want a garden stamp.  I get my Stamp catalog and I go to the garden section.  And I look at the images and see which one I want.  If I want this one.  I see its in a DVD case.  And its II1.  So I go to my Shelf  and the cases are in order by Alpha Number so It only takes a mere second to find the exact stamp set I'm looking for. No more hunting, and forgetting what I have.
This is just a few of my sets.  In my system.  I also keep my Spell binders like this.  The top row are smaller cases because those are See D's stamps and they come in a CD case.

Here is the link to my Stamp Storage Excel sheet, that will fit the side of the DVD cases.  If it opens, click File, save as.

Super Jewel DVD cases with out liners. Tape Online! .88 each (thanks 4shoppingonly for the tip on the cheaper place)

New Flower Blossoms 1 Collection

Here it is.  I have my newest Flower Collection in the store. RM00143

This is a little different from my normal 3D Flowers I have posted before.  These are so versatile.   There are 9 Flowers in this collection.  And 6 different leaves.   So you can pick and choose which Flowers and Leaves you use. Or even mix and match flower layers.  So they can always look different.  These Flowers have from 4 to 7 layers.  So you can make many different flowers by how many layers you use.  You can use just a few for a simple flower or use them all for a detailed flower.

There are so many things you can do with these.  You can Ink the edges.  You can use glimmer mist on them.  You can use stickles or glitter on the edges of the petals.  You can use embossing folders for a special look or you can even wet them and crumple them up for a vintage look.  And for the centers.  You can use any thing from Rhinestone, Buttons, Brads. You name it, You can use it.    I have even made some and used pop dots between the layers to make them more 3D.

I sent this file to Gloria, one of my Creative Team members and she sent me this picture of the finished Flowers she made from this file.   I think they turned out beautiful.  I just love all the glitter on these.

Now, I'm giving away this file to one lucky Follower.  All you have to do is Follow my blog and leave me a comment letting me know you love this Collection.   And leave me your email so I can contact you.  Or I can post the winner and its up to you to check back and see if you won.  You will have one week to claim your file. I will pick a winner on Friday April 15th.

Thanks for stopping by!

Friday Already!

Wow, where did this week go?  I haven't got much done this week.  I have been fighting my Chronic Fatigue this week.  And it seems like all I do is sleep this week.

I tried working in my craft room but fell asleep and totally lost my file I was designing. I went out side to check the garden,  and next thing you know, I'm waking up by the feeling of a sunburn because I fell asleep on the swing in the yard. So its been a rough week.  These are a few of the reasons I cant work, I have a form of narcolepsy.  When I get tired, I just fall asleep any where, even while driving.  So I don't drive much.  Today, I took a 3 hour nap and I'm still so tired.   I hate this,  I cant get any thing done.  So its not a very productive week.

Sorry I have been missing this week.  I hope to be more crafty and posting more next week.

Have a great weekend.
